A look back at Izola as we climb a hill leaving the town behind.
We are now on the Parenzana Trail. The section in Slovenia is nicely paved almost its entire length. Here we are approaching a railway tunnel shortly after leaving Izola.
A video clip inside the tunnel.
After leaving Slovenia the travel quickly turns to gravel.
Here I am where they carved they railway into the stone.
It's not a wonder why they gave up this project after looking at the shovel they were using.
Approaching Buje.
Inside Buje. A very tiny town but very intense. It is very old with all grades of degradation.
A panoramic photo.
Another one.
Notice how they used anything and everything for the stonework. They used sections of columns in this part of the wall.
All in all a great day of riding. Mostly uphill and gravel but not to steep.
Tomorrow we are off to Groznjan. Just a 5 mile ride.
The sunshine in your pictures is creating this deep longing in me as we endure days of rain. (Peter G)
