A beautiful river scene leaving Cividale del Friuli. The water is coming right of the Alps just a few miles away. Fantastically clear water.
The best tasty food on the trip so far. The picture is half of an appetizer as we split it and it was served on two different plates. It is the most perfectly grilled and seasoned octopus that we have ever had or can remember. DELIZIOSO.
The country side has changed to incredible rolling hills of grapes and forests.
Our best ride of the trip so far.
All of our rides to date have been flat beyond imagination. Today we had mostly a mild downhill ride with a few decent hills. Here is a picture of Devon after a short 11 percent grade. It is amazing what 2 panniers on a steel touring bike does to the amount of effort it takes to get up a hill. I could have avoided the couple of hills on this route but it would have added 10km to the ride.

Here we are at 11:30am just a few km from Gorizia our stop for the night. We were going to stop for a cafe but we had been talking about how much the Italians drink in this region. We always see them with a glass of wine instead of coffee from morning till night. We were even told by a person in this region that they are known for their drinking. So I said to Devon, when in Italy let's do what the Italians do, due vino blanco's were on there way with potato chips. As we sat there sipping our wine, everyone one in the packed cafe/bar was being given complimentary French fries. Next thing you know it I had two more vino's coming our way. Now when I paid my bill I realized why the Italians here drink so much vino. My bar bill was 6 euros for 4 glasses of good wine.
