Lunch in Udine. A Mortadella Pizza. On my cardiologist must eat foods. I did a little research and Mortadella has less fat than hard salami. I feel better now! I can honestly say this was a fantastic pizza. For you vegetarians out there. To tell how much of an affinity the Italians have for Mortadella this restaunt also had a VEGAN Mortadella Pizza on a gluten free crust. Ya gotta lovem.
Devon dancing in front of the winery, we were having too much fine drinking and eating too check our email.
Local Food Recipes at the winery. A small menu with 4 or five items. Italian bar food. The larger pancake is what has been recommended to us by many of the locals. It is ground potatoes, onion, and cheese. Basicly a potatoe pancake. The small ones are polenta.
A sausage, gravy and puree of some sort.
A complimentary plate of munchies. I think the white triangular ones spread is a blend of ingredients but mostly lard. I can't say the food was great or anything to write home about, but I guess that is what I am doing.
Our first suspension bridge crossing. We don't see these too often in Italy.
As we are getting closer to the Alps the water in the canals has gotten clear. Time for a break just a couple of kilometers from the Udine apartment. Talked with the locals for about an hour with mostly sign language, a little italian, a little english and google translate.
Arriving into Udine. I will attempt to describe its pronunciation. U (as in mood) Donna. Not exactly right but somewhat close. I wonder why the Italians have a hard time understanding me. Oh well.
We picked up the keys to the apartment first and th took our bikes about 300 meters away to store. On this little journey the keys got totally tangled with the mesh pockets. I thought I was going to have to pick up my leg, like a dog peeing to getvthe key to the lock, as people watched sipping their cafe to get the key up to the lock. I eventually got it free.
Our Udine apartment. This was perfect. We are here for 3 days and a comfortable couch with windows is a must.
The kicthen, Devon didn't want this posted but what the hell. We were asked how much our apartments cost. They are mostly from 80 to 100 euros. Or 85 to 110 dollars.
A walk through the town. We like Udine, a very nice place to visit.Appetizer of Prociutto. Quite a fantastic flavored one. There is such a huge variety of them I wish I knew more on the subject.
A fantastic primi of local pasta dish. I have to say all the pastas we have had so far have been great.
BEFORE. A small whole chicken, potatoes, and beet root. It was good not great.
And AFTER. We split both the chicken and the pasta.
To end the evening we have a little of this herbal licorice aperotivo.
NOTE: I was just made aware that the maps weren't working on the previous posts. So I reloaded them. Hopefully the will work now. You can go back and check them out. The first post has our proposed route.
